Possible futures for the forest and forest-based sector: The role of policy
Our mid-term policy brief presents the preliminary results of our analysis of forest-related policies and how they can inform possible futures.
The brief looks at how EU forest-related policies are shaping the future of Europe’s forests and forest-based industries. By analysing key legal policies extracted from 79 identified policy instruments within policies, strategies or laws from diverse policy areas, including industry, energy, finance and business, climate change and environment, the brief reveals the complex interplay of policies impacting forest management and wood supply.
The findings underline the need for coherent, cross-sectoral policymaking and inclusive stakeholder engagement. With Europe’s forests facing diverse ecological and socio-economic conditions, the brief calls for harmonised legal frameworks and supportive measures to ensure sustainable development.
